Abstract :
The paper presents electroinsulating properties of vacuum gaps between chosen contact materials used in vacuum interrupters. Cu-Cr25, Cu-Cr50 and W-Cu30 sinter materials were investigated. Typical microdischarge phenomena in the prebreakdown stage were analyzed using an arrangement for partial discharge measurements as well as multichannel analyzers. It has been found that there is a very strong relation between breakdown voltage in vacuum gaps and parameters describing microdischarges.
