Abstract :
This paper describes the harmonic models developed and the simulations performed as part of a study to design harmonic filters for a large industrial load. The goal of the study was to design filters that would increase the load power factor to 99%, while keeping the system within all IEEE Standard 519 harmonic limits under all expected operating conditions. To simplify system operation, it was hoped that all of the filters could be of a single design and still meet these criteria. In addition to determining compliance with harmonic limits, harmonic simulations were performed to determine the voltage and current ratings of the filter components. Harmonic measurements were taken before filter installation to insure model accuracy and after filter installation to confirm simulation results
