Abstract :
The process of developing system-level software for embedded real-time reduced-instruction-set-computer- (RISC-) based designs is much more complex than for complex-instruction-set-computer- (CISC-) based embedded real-time designs. The use of the pSOS/sup +/ kernal can assist developers in coping with this complexity, allowing RISC-based embedded designs to be completed in time periods comparable with more traditional CISC-based designs. Benefits are also enjoyed in terms of increased system reliability, extendibility, and transportability to other RISC and CISC architectures. pSOS (Plug-in Silicon Operating System) was designed as a silicon operating system which an embedded real-time software designer could readily plug into his/her system and use. pSOS/sup +/ is a real-time operating system kernel component for embedded designs representing a highly leveraged superset of the capabilities of the original pSOS. With pSOS/sup +/, designers of RISC-based embedded real-time systems can be relieved of many of the burdens involved in the development of system-level software for RISC architectures.<>
