Abstract
High side voltage control has been effectively used at Manitoba Hydro to provide transient stability benefits while at the same time providing an intuitive interface for system operators. The most frequently used element in high side voltage control within Manitoba Hydro is the joint VAr control. However, direct exciter response of locations other than the machine terminals is also important. The paper traces the development and usage of high side voltage control at Manitoba Hydro and shows design details and commissioning results from an installation
