Abstract
In this paper, we presented two micro-optical structures, image-enhanced reflector and random grating reflector, to enhance the image quality of transflective LCDs under both bright and dark ambience conditions. The image-enhanced reflector for the transflective LCD has been fabricated using a gray-tone mask exposed by excimer laser. The width of the image-enhanced reflector is 16 μm and the depth is 1.8 μm that can just substitute the black matrix between each subpixel. The proposed image enhanced reflector may not only avoid the light leakage, but also enhance the image quality. The transflective LCDs using random grating reflector provides more uniform reflected light within typical viewing region from 0 to 25 °, with high brightness and high image quality. The fabricated structures are imaged by AFM.
