Abstract
The design of a Semantic Reliability Information Network (SRIN) enables the user to perform an integrated reliability analysis of his system in the design phase. Reliability information such as lifetime distribution and the failure parameters are in the assembly or reliability objects. The system reliability can be calculated in the SRIN with the application of order relations, used assemblies or reliability objects. A need for action can be derived based on a comparison of the demanded and calculated reliability values, until the predefined reliability demands in the design are fulfilled. The SRIN provides the user an appropriate tool that demonstrates weak points in design concerning reliability aspects. Including the costs of quality (both the cost of conformance and non-conformance) in the early design phase, one has the ability to influence the cost trend for guarantee, rejects and remachining costs depending on reliability aspects. So it is possible to estimate further costs which have a significant influence on a company. The semantic network supports all design activities regarding reliability and cost aspects and improves the design process
