Abstract :
The ASTRA satellite system today provides 64 transponders on its four co-positioned satellites at 19.2° East. A high number of subcarriers have been dedicated to digital audio transmission of free-to-air broadcasters and the pay-audio provider Digital Music Express (DMX). The ADR system is highly consumer oriented because: it is available today with reasonably priced consumer receivers; it provides far over 100 digital audio programmes in Compact Disc quality; and it is the ideal system for digital audio reception at home as it can easily be integrated into the satellite TV reception system, e.g. the same 60 cm dish could be used for both TV, and digital radio reception
