Abstract :
This paper describes the studies on methods of lossless compression for medical ultrasonic scanned image (echocardiography) sequences. The aim is to find one, or a combination of methods, that achieves the highest overall compression performance. The approach is to segment the image into regions with different spatial characteristics, and encode them independently. In so doing the authors are able to achieve compression ratios of about 4.8 to 6.2 while preserving the lossless contents of important regions
