Abstract :
Different multimedia applications have different characteristics and properties which determine specific quality of service (QoS). For QoS purposes the application functions may interact with the resource management function or rely on the service control functions. The optimal utilization of network resources implies cross-layer approach to resource management that allows third party application control also. Third party applications can access QoS control functions through application programming interfaces (APIs). The paper presents a definition approach to Application-level Resource Management APIs that are Open Service Access (OSA) compliant. The API definition is based on the resource control procedures defined in the Policy and Charging Control architecture for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
