Abstract :
An analysis is given of the expansion of desktop video post-production in the UK, across the broadcast and corporate video sectors. A majority of the desktop video systems in the UK favour a future for post-production based on simple to use, intuitive software interfaces with instant access to video and audio data, and no VTR pre-roll times during a long edit. Quantel has dominated the high cost uncompressed digital editing and effects market since the days of Harry. One of the crucial questions for anyone configuring a desktop video system, is which computer platform and operating system to base it on. There are vendors of the Pentium PC, IBM Power PC, Apple and Radius Power Mac, Digital Equipment Corp. and Silicon Graphics all pitching hard for business
