Abstract :
In this paper we aim to reduce the switching time for Internet protocol tv (IPTV) using H.264 scalable video coding. In preview mode, we transmit the base layers of several channels simultaneously and thus switch instantaneously between them. In watching mode, the base and enhancement layers of the current channel are both transmitted and full video quality is achieved. Experiments show fast channel switching with negligible quality loss in watching mode.
