Abstract :
Ubiquitous healthcare system should be well designed without disturbing the user feeling during operation. The system requires reliability and easy measurement for daily use, which is particularly essential for an ubiquitous healthcare device. In this paper, biofeedback chair for mental stress condition was designed using heart rate variability (HRV). Our designed prototype was equipped with one channel ECG. HRV was estimated from ECG by QRS detection method and the absolute value of the successive beat-to-beat interval difference. To validate effectiveness, emotional state is artificially induced by a composed video clip, and then induced emotion is appraised by the SAM. Since, the respiratory therapy is known for good method to mental disorder. We applied the respiration training to our device to adjust the balance level of the autonomous nervous system. Throughout the experiments, we demonstrated feasibility of the designed ECG-based personal emotion control device for biofeedback chair.
