Abstract :
Summary form only as given. A main problem in studies of technology evolution is the difficulty in obtaining reliable data in a cost-effective way. This study uses commercially available data to analyze the evolution of ATM and copier machines in the last 20 years. In this way, the authors are able to observe the emergence of dominant designs and to draw relevance trees. Problems with these data sources are discussed
