Abstract
An attempt is made to understand voltage-stability-related static and dynamic bifurcations. The problem is analyzed in the framework of bifurcation with group symmetry. The observed power system phenomena where collision and splitting of eigenvalues take place is identified with a special type of bifurcation, called the mode-focus bifurcation. Two numerical examples are considered: a three-bus system and a three-machine system
