  • Abstract
    Excitation of whispering gallery modes (WGM) in unrestricted dielectric substrate under metal disc placed at some distance from a surface of the dielectric substrate has been found experimentally. The proposed resonant structure is tuneable in a wide frequency range. The experiments were carried out in millimeter wave-band with single crystalline sapphire substrate. The calculated and measured data on frequencies and quality-factors are compared. The calculated distribution of the WGM fields is presented. Possibility of constructing high-Q microstrip WGM resonator is shown.
