Abstract :
Maximum likelihood method is an adaptive beam-forming approach for estimating the angle of arrival of the target. A search is performed over all possible angle of arrivals and a suitable direction is selected such that is gives the highest probability of declaring a target to be present. Least mean squares technique is used for updating the maximum likelihood weights adaptively. It is shown that the maximum likelihood method provides improved angle accuracy by reducing the weight error.
