  • Abstract
The study of complex adaptive systems (CAS) has been a research effort attempting to find common characteristics and/or formal distinctions among complex systems arising in diverse domains that might lead to a better understanding of how complexity occurs, whether it follows any general scientific laws of nature, and how it might be related to simplicity. Based on the complex adaptive system (CAS) theory, this paper demonstrates the complex adaptive nature of logistics system, and argues that logistics system should be treated as a CAS. With this recognition, this paper investigates the complex adaptive performance mechanism of logistics system and proposes a quantitative model of performances on how various factors affect the logistics system.
