Abstract :
The authors present the status of the Laboratorio Nacional de Luz Sincrotron (LNLS) of Brazil as of January 1989 and discuss future plans for the installation. The 50-MeV linac will be assembled and commissioned during 1989. The full 100-MeV linac will be assembled and commissioned over the next two years. A major revision of the storage ring project has led LNLS to opt for a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) ring as the circular machine to be built following the linac. It is due to be commissioned by 1992
