Abstract :
Compact semiconductor lasers supporting a planar Gaussian mode are demonstrated. The feedback elements consist of deep etched distributed Bragg reflectors with a curvature that contours the phase front of the Gaussian wave. Low threshold current is achieved for a cavity as short as 90 /spl mu/m.
