  • Abstract
All the present day networks, whether they are Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN), or Internet, or intranet, the primary purpose is to obtain reliable and efficient information transfers. In order to avoid congestions on the networks and also to minimize the expenses associated with network use, there should be a sound methodology to monitor and manage these networks and the associated information transfers. Often, due to incompatibility of the vendor´s specific equipment and protocols, there exists uncertainty in the information communications (B. Boardman, 2000). The authors present the results of their investigations into the methodologies used for information and network management on scalable networks. The issues related to the Common Information Model (CIM) such as the general architecture and configuration, relative performance and variation strategies are explored and evaluated. With the advent of the Web practically controlling the commercial, industrial and academic activities, it is a logical choice to implement Web based enterprise management (WBEM) schemes and investigations have been conducted in that area, with a substantial amount of success
