Abstract
Summary form only as given. Most organizations endure years of struggles, trying to fulfil imaginary expectations of their membership on educational issues. IEEE EMS is no exception. Many surveys have been collected over the years, with varying implementations of survey data. This paper looks into two unusually successful programs from the Mid-Atlantic region of the USA. The Washington DC, Section of the IEEE has conducted successful seminars over the years, primarily in the areas of emerging technologies and self-growth, such as Starting and Financing Your Own Business. In contrast, the Washington DC Chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery has sponsored a series of ten, one-day professional development seminars devoted to topics in data processing and computer science
