Abstract :
An interpretation of historical developments in power electronics and rotating machines provides a perspective for anticipating future developments in a-c adjustable-speed drives. A chronology traces the evolution of engineering practice in power engineering from early rotating machines to modern electronic power conversion and related motor technologies. The manner in which power electronics and rotating machines have functionally competed with, and at the same time enhanced each other, is examined.
