Abstract :
Focuses on database programming using Java. Java provides a very good approach to working with different database. A discussion is provided about database programming using Java for the Microsoft Access DBMS. Some concepts are reviewed along the way, like relational databases, components of databases, Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data sources, the Java SQL package and methods. The Java programming language has the potential of working with different databases like SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, Sybase, Microsoft Access and others. Java uses the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) tool to work with the database. Programs developed with the Java programming language and JDBC are platform- and vendor-independent. This paper introduces the concept of a JDBC-ODBC bridge for Microsoft Access, which is a useful system for understanding and teaching database programming. Examples of simple Java programs for Microsoft Access are provided as illustrations of the concept of database programming
