Abstract :
Land mobile satellite (LMS) systems can exploit multiple input-multiple-output (MIMO) techniques in order to achieve high transmission rates. This paper evaluates the delay parameters of the channel for a single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) satellite system utilizing a hypothetical transmitter that simulates the satellite transmission and a ground terminal embedded with one, two and four dipole antennas as the receiver. The SIMO channel parameters are evaluated with the help of simulation radiowave propagation software using a highresolution digital map, whereas the propagation study is conducted taking into account a dense urban environment. The mean excess delay varies from 174 to 576 ns in all the LOS locations, and from 411 to 487 ns in NLOS, respectively. The rms delay spread varies from 318 to 920 ns in all the LOS locations, and from 759 to 860 ns in NLOS, depending on the elevation angle. There is a significant reduction in rms delay spread values when multiple elements are utilized at the receiver in comparison with the SISO case.
