Abstract :
In an effort to improve images generated by microwave breast imaging prototypes (e.g. [1]), a transmission measurement system (TMS) has been developed to provide average property estimations [2]. This system features two ultrawideband (UWB) antennas [3], which are placed in contact with the breast with one antenna on either side. The prototype system is shown in figure 1, and a model used to simulate the TMS is shown in figure 2. The transmission coefficient is typically measured with the antennas compressing the breast by 0 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm; i.e., a total of 4 measurements.
