Abstract :
Segment-based packet combining schemes are an attractive approach towards link-layer packet combining for memory-constrained sensor nodes. We consider the usage of segment-based combining schemes in a dense cluster of relayers. We show that with two or more relayers the segment-based scheme provides a higher probability for the cluster to possess the full information sent by the source node than an unsegmented protocol. Secondly, to achieve an (almost) perfect average per-segment diversity, it suffices if each relayer transmits only once.
