Abstract :
It is shown that exponential stabilization and improvement of stability margin are not achievable for a large and important class of distributed plants, including most hyperbolic systems. This happens despite a powerful dynamic compensation allowed in the linear feedback loop. This shows that the limitations obtained in previous works, with weaker feedback compensation, in achieving exponential stability for certain distributed systems cannot be removed even by the stronger one used in the present work. In the present case, this limitation is due to the natural requirement of properness of the compensator
