  • Abstract
In this paper, we present the design, implementation, and evaluation of a joint stereo camera-head mounted display (HMD) system with the ability to stream live video into binocular display. With this device we intend to identify specific constrains of human stereo vision such as the minimum conditions for interocular distance and binocular color rivalry. We also explore the possibility of tele-operation and tele-manipulation with a dichoptic presentation of the surroundings of the HMD, that is, non-correspondent video streams presented simultaneously to each eye. Results obtained point to important considerations for the design of stereoscopic tele-operation systems.
