  • Abstract
To date, the dominating technology in worldwide use for electrical energy measurement is based on Ferraris disk meters. To a high degree they still meet the relevant requirements in that field of application, e.g. accuracy, functionality, cost effectiveness. Two main characteristics in particular of induction type meters are not subject to competition by any other high volume measuring instrument: reliability and long term stability over more than a thirty years´ lifetime. Starting roughly two decades ago, electricity meters based on electronic measurement technology have been developed and installed in distribution networks. Here, the author describes such digital measurement systems for electricity metering applications
