Abstract :
The influence of the insertion devices on the beam dynamics of the 8-GeV Chasman-Green lattice was evaluated. Effects were examined for a 166-pole undulator of a period length of 3 cm and a 12-pole wiggler of a period length of 18 cm. Particle tracking was performed with an extended version of the computer code Racetrack. It was found that linear distortion is more pronounced with a wiggler while nonlinear distortion is more pronounced with an undulator. It was also found that the degrees of both linear and nonlinear distortion in the 8-GeV machine are not critical for the operation of the machine. Nonlinear effects of short period devices reduce the vertical dynamic aperture to a considerable extent, but it still exceeds the gap of the chamber required for these devices
