Abstract
Railtrack intends to undertake deployment of a state-of-the-art radio system, on a national basis, to support Railtrack´s operations well into the 21st. century. A digital radio system is to be deployed in order to meet this aim, replacing the existing analogue networks. DART (Digital Advanced Radio for Trains) is the name given to the radio system to be deployed. The DART project is to develop a single radio system based on a public GSM network which will allow secure communication of both voice and data between train drivers and signallers, zone controllers and other DART users
