Generic modeling propositions for configuring, sale, product and production

Facilitating product customization, configuration has attracted much attention from both academia and industry alike. However, the available studies and the reported systems focus on sales or product configuration while leaving other important issues in developing customized products unaddressed. In this study, we propose a new configuration concept: integrated SAles, Product and Production configuration (SAP² configuration) to accommodate the entire product customization process. In this study, we focus on the underpinning configuration model: the generic bill of functions, materials and operations (GBoFMO) and discuss it in detail.
