Abstract
A product development process reengineering was performed to improve competitive position and establish a consistent development process, based on best practices, across multiple divisions. The development process framework consists of cross-functional executive management teams, product development teams, a structured development process, and stage-gated decision checkpoint reviews. The implementation approach shown to be successful included diagnosis of current development process problems, formation of a cross-functional process customization team to perform the actual process design, creation of reviewer networks, pilot project implementation, and use of outside consultants. Crucial for deployment of the new development process were sustaining senior executives support, and making complementary organizational changes
