Abstract
The coordinated and simultaneous movements of the scapula, clavicle and humerus are necessary for full elevation and normal function of the upper limb. The morphologic structure of the shoulder can be represented, at a first approximation, by a set of geometrical finite elements. Three representations of bone contours are used to model the shoulder mechanism. The development of this type of applications requires more and more detailed sets of data regarding dimensions and positions of different components of the system and a quantitative method to estimate the tensions in the muscles in order to obtain a tighter connection between modeling and experience.
