Abstract :
Reducing mutual coupling is an important topic in array antenna designs. This paper proposes a uniplanar compact electromagnetic band-gap (UC-EBG) structure in order to reduce mutual coupling between substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot array antennas, decrease side lobe level and increase antenna gain by suppressing the surface waves. These purposes are achieved by using characteristics of high-impedance surface (HIS) UC-EBG structure. The paper presents a UC-EBG array configuration with a SIW slot array of 2 × 4 elements at X-band.
