Abstract
This paper addresses the reliability and availability of uninterruptable power supply systems (UPS) used in modern datacenters and telecom core infrastructure. As 380V DC power distribution systems are gaining wider acceptance, it is expected that they meet high standards imposed by the industry in terms of reliability and availability. In this paper, reliability and availability of AC UPS topologies are compared to 380V DC topologies using an example of powering a 270kW load. The comparison is made for several different topologies and includes datacenter electrical infrastructure allocated to AC UPS and DC UPS systems. Results of this comparison are derived from a static reliability modeling approach by means of Fault Tree Analysis.
