Abstract
A mathematical analysis of retinal processing is given which includes both outer plexiform layer (OPL) and inner plexiform layer (IPL). The model is based on the extended model of Hochstein and Shapley which contains leaky integrator neurons. The equation is derived for the bipolar, amacrine and ganglion (both X and Y type) cells membrane potential, which contains both linear and nonlinear contributions. The transform function for the X-cell model is written explicitly. For some special cases the transfer function for Y-cells is analysed
