Abstract
This paper deals with the management of international and joint R&D projects. The role of R&D in improving the productivity and quality has been fully recognized. An attempt has been made in this paper to review the experiences of Finnish international companies in managing international and joint R&D projects, using the data available from secondary sources. The following issues of international R&D projects and their role in industrial competitiveness are discussed: (i) location of R&D facilities, (ii) need for joint R&D projects, (iii) selection of joint and international R&D projects, and (iv) managing international and joint projects. Based on the analysis of the review and data, a list of suggestions is provided for managing the international and joint R&D projects successfully
