Abstract :
Describes a single fault-tolerant microprocessor whose development has been influenced by the more popular multiprocessor architecture. The characteristics of this microprocessor fall within the basic constraints of the RISC architecture, therefore it is considered to be a fault-tolerant RISC microprocessor. This fault-tolerant microprocessor is modeled using VHDL, the very high speed integrated circuit hardware description language. A discussion of the use of fault-tolerant concepts in the design of a RISC microprocessor is the primary focus of the paper. A general overview of the characteristics of VHDL and how this language can be used in modeling a processor is also discussed
