Abstract
Estimating the resources and time for the development of control software for advanced engineering products is a major challenge for manufacturers. In a study with a leading company, systematic use was made of qualitative data collection methods to elucidate existing practice. Analysis of the data led to suggestions for improvement in procedures and the development of a computer based aid for estimation
