Abstract :
The paper describes the SECOMS/ABATE experiments in terms of both satellite service experimentation and validation of developed technology. The first end-to-end mobile satellite service trials at 20/30 GHz executed in Europe are described, relevant to an advanced interactive multimedia satellite service with continental wide coverage using small size terminals. The goal is to characterise the broadband and narrow-band satellite-mobile links, taking into account utilisation type (personal and mobile use), to validate the developed user terminal prototypes in real environments. Considering that the field trials are now under execution, the achieved measurements are presented as well as the relevant design and development of the already implemented land and aeronautical terminal prototypes
