Abstract :
The authors present the functional design of a signal preprocessing system which integrates analog signal preprocessing and digital postprocessing on a single integrated circuit. A traveling-wave amplifier followed by a passive filtering structure is used to obtain a spatially distributed representation of the spectral content of the input signal. A neural network emulation is then used to extract features of the spatial representation. A critical component for implementation of the proposed design is a silicon-based, CMOS-compatible inductor. One method of producing such a structure is proposed, and the values of inductance that might be obtained are estimated
