  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The importance of performance measurement is growing as organisations move from financial to nonfinancial measures, attempt to improve longer term business results though alignment of the company with its strategy and concentrate their effort on what really matters to improve performance. Frameworks for performance measurement such as the balanced business scorecard and the SMART performance pyramid are increasingly being discussed and used. But although these frameworks are useful in themselves, it is important to understand the process of populating the framework, deciding exactly what to measure, why, when and how? The processes to do this usually include facilitated workshops as an important component and this paper addresses this aspect within one particular process
