Abstract :
This paper makes a full analysis on SCRs used in 3-phase PWM current source rectifier in the hundreds kilowatts power application, and proposes a novel driving method with reversed voltage on SCRs during turn off operation, drastically decreasing the TOFF of SCRs, and, therefore, achieving higher switching frequency. Taking the advantage of this novel idea, crucial electrical circuit characteristics, such as smaller volume on ac/dc sides filter inductors and capacitances, decreased current THD, and higher dynamic performance, can be achieved for better performance and reliabilities in the high power rectifier. In order to verify this proposed driving method, simulation on a 300 kW rectifier is designed, and experiment on a 20 kW prototype is conducted.
