International technology transfer model

Summary form only given. A mathematical model for measuring technology transfer potentials has been developed in this paper. The model is developed in the context of technology diffusion. It incorporates time and a dynamic technological gap. The technological gap is defined as the difference in technological capabilities between countries. In this paper, it is suggested that the technological capability of a country in a given technology can be measured by an indicator called the “technology index”. The technology index could be developed based upon various variables and employing mathematical techniques such as factor analysis and the analytical hierarchy process. The determinants of the technology index variables also have been broadly classified in this paper. This model can be used as a decision-making tool to determine the optimum gap between the transferer and the transferee. Thus, for each transferee, there is an optimum transferer for a particular technology. With this transferer, the maximum level of assimilation that can be achieved by the transferee in a specific time period of technology transfer will be the highest compared to other potential transferers
