Abstract :
Summary form only given. With a sustained booming economy, China is keen to obtain more advanced technology from foreign countries, particularly from Western and Japanese sources. The authors´ investigation showed that technology transfer in Japanese ventures in China has achieved certain degree of success. Technology transfer contributed substantially to the upgrade of local production capability, the training of managerial and technical personnel and the establishment of modern management systems in these enterprises. However, numerous problems and barriers were also encountered by foreign investors. The authors describe how successful technology transfer demands tremendous time and effort from both the foreign and local partners. Transfer of management skills goes hand in hand with the transfer of technical know-how in most cases. This is a great challenge for multinational enterprises venturing in PRC with substantial technology transfer
