Abstract :
The multipath propagation channel strongly influences the performance of a wireless system. For car-to-car communication systems, reliable communication for safety-related applications is essential. This paper elaborates on different antenna configurations consisting of six antennas mounted at different positions on the car. With this, also MIMO communication links can be established in order to increase data rate or communication reliability. These configurations will then be evaluated in terms of channel capacity and bit error rate in a typical car-to-car scenario at an urban intersection. From this, the achievable communication distance will be derived and compared with required stopping distances of the cars involved.
