Abstract
A polarization diversity antenna embedded with ultra wideband (UWB)/narrow-band (NB) switching capability is presented. The two port, uni-planar design utilizes an open annular slot with orthogonal feeding mechanism to achieve polarization diversity performance across the UWB band from 2.9 GHz to 11GHz. Coplanar wave guide fed electronically reconfigurable slot resonator based filters are deployed for switching between UWB and NB modes. This low profile design facilitates nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern, low envelop correlation coefficient and moderate gain. In time domain, the antenna shows flat group delay variations of less than 1ns. These characteristics makes the proposed antenna suitable for next generation cognitive radio systems, where the UWB antenna is used for spectrum sensing and NB antenna for communication.
