Abstract
A version of the go-back-N protocol, the most popular error-control systems used in data communication systems, is considered. The packets are repeatedly retransmitted at predetermined limited times and are treated as a noise or distortion. The z-transform of the transmission delay and its mean are derived. The distortion factor is defined as the rate of acceptance of erroneous packets. The technique of multiple-copy transmission of a packet is also considered to improve the delay performance.<>
