Abstract :
A novel foil-type scheme for air-core transformer windings is studied to simplify the windings assembling process. A 30 W class prototype transformer is evaluated using a 500 kHz flyback power converter in comparison with a conventional transformer using twisted-wire-type windings. An efficiency of 80% (1% lower than the twisted-type) was obtained by the prototype. An energy recovery circuit is also examined to improve the efficiency
